Today is the 5th of May, or Cinco de Mayo. A celebration, not of Mexican Independence (as many people believe), but of the Mexican victory over the French at the Battle of Puebla. Know your history!
In Japan, it's also Children's Day, and the end of Golden Week.

I actually knew that. I couldn't remember the name of the battle but I knew it was a victory against the French. Suck it Napoleon!
ReplyDeleteNapoleon III, to be exact. The first Napoleon had been dead for 40 years. The general defeated by the Mexican forces was Charles de Lorencez. So technically your "Suck it Napoleon!" was inaccurate, since I'm sure you were referring to the first and most famous one and I'll sleep on the couch tonight.
ReplyDeleteHe's still a Napoleon and I'm sure the people of the world back then referred to him as just plain Napoleon and you have to sleep on the little couch in the office for being mean to me.
