Cleaned out the ol' cubicle today. Felt like I was moving out of my apartment. I might have had too much stuff here.
Got all nostalgic, running across a bunch of keepsakes and reminders of the past two years. A lot of good times.
Right now, I'm done except for a backup of my work on this computer. Brought in my external, installed Terracopy (if you use Windows...), selected the required folders and let it run.
It says it will take about ... well, why don't I just show you?
Yes. 52 days, 22 hours 58 minutes 42 seconds remaining.
I may be here for quite some time.
UPDATE:
Neato.
UPDATE AGAIN:
Also I'm very hungry, and my painkillers are wearing off.
NEATO.
UPDATE AGAIN AGAIN:
I just realized that I still have the Linux partition to do after this.
NEAT. OH.

so you are done with the assistantship? But..but...your project ! ಠ_ಠ
ReplyDeleteAnd btw, how much data are u backing up? I doubt it's over 160GB (which shouldn't take DAYS either) because that's the biggest drive size the department has...aside from the new machines
It's not nearly that much. I don't know why it's taking so long.
ReplyDeleteSO, I went home last night, and came back this morning expecting the data on the Windows partition to be finished copying. BUT it had failed about halfway through. Why? Because I was copying from an NTFS partition to FAT32 (I didn't check the format of the new external before using it. LESSON LEARNED), and FAT32 can't support certain filesizes and has limitations on the number of files in a directory that NTFS doesn't have.
SO I'm converting it to NTFS right now and will continue backing up my data. So to recap, it's nearly 10AM, and I'm STILL backing up the data on only the FIRST partition I have to go through. I STILL HAVE ANOTHER ONE AFTER THIS.
I should have had breakfast first.
HOLY SHNIKIES THIS IS SO MUCH FASTER!
ReplyDeleteOld speed: 8KB/s
New speed: 1.5MB/s
I thought FAT was faster than NTFS? Don't believe the lies, kids.
Did I say 1.5MB/s?
ReplyDeleteI meant 19MB/s.
I KNEW IT!
